New ‘Forever Chemicals’ Rapidly Accumulating in Humans, Homes
A group of synthetic compounds known as ‘forever chemicals’ has been under scrutiny for many years due to known or suspected harmful effects. Now, a recent study has found that smaller compounds used as replacements for these chemicals may be accumulating more rapidly than the original versions.
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances – often called PFAS or forever chemicals – are the original compounds and are linked to hormone disruption, immune dysfunction, cancer, and more. In some cases, they are now being replaced with short-chain or ultrashort perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs).
Recent research has demonstrated that these new PFAAs may move more easily through the water supply due to their smaller size and could have more toxic effects than the longer PFAS. In the latest study, researchers found indication that short PFAAs are already rapidly accumulating in dust, drinking water, and the human body.
The study authors believe the high amount of smaller PFAAs discovered is due to both their use as replacements for longer PFAS and the breakdown of longer PFAS in the environment. They did also note that homes without carpet or with regular vacuuming had lower overall levels of PFAAs.
Hot Yoga Can Greatly Improve Depression, Promotes Remission
Taking part in heated yoga sessions twice a week could significantly help adults with moderate-to-severe depression, a new clinical trial has found. Overall, more than half of participants experienced a 50% or greater decrease in symptoms.
The study involved 80 participants with depression who were divided into two groups: one that received yoga sessions for 8 weeks and one that was put on a waitlist for yoga. The yoga group took part in two 90-minute sessions of Bikram yoga per week in a 105°F room.
At the end of 8 weeks, not only did the yoga group experience significantly improved symptoms compared with the waitlist / control group, about 44% of participants improved so much that they were considered to be in remission for depression.
“Yoga and heat-based interventions could potentially change the course for treatment for patients with depression by providing a non-medication–based approach with additional physical benefits as a bonus,” said Maren Nyer, PhD, lead author. “Future research is needed to…explore whether heat has benefits over and above that of yoga…”

The Definitive Guide To Dementia Prevention
Research increasingly suggests that dementia may be largely preventable.
However, memory damage often starts decades before symptoms arise, which means it’s critical to start making changes as soon as possible. Unfortunately, this can be problematic, since there is limited and often conflicting information available about which specific changes you should focus on. That’s why Julia Lundstrom, Neuroscience and Brain Health Educator, created her free workshop: The Definitive Guide To Dementia Prevention. In it, you’ll discover what your current Alzheimer's risks are, how to boost a protein that is key to Alzheimer's prevention, and how to undo any past damage to your brain by stimulating stem cell rejuvenation.

Top 10 Benefits of Lavender Oil for Your Skin
Lavender has been used since at least ancient Egyptian times and can be a highly beneficial skincare ingredient as an essential oil. When diluted, lavender oil can help to calm red- or inflamed-looking skin and has the potential to brighten the appearance of hyperpigmentation. Some studies have also shown acne-fighting effects of lavender essential oil, and it’s generally gentle on all skin types. Better still, lavender oil gives products a natural calming scent instead of a synthetic one. (More)
Broccoli Sprouts Are Rich in Disease-Fighting Compounds
All cruciferous vegetables, including broccoli, are rich in health-boosting sulfur compounds. Some, like glucosinolates and isothiocyanates, have antioxidant activity and anticancer effects. Now, researchers have discovered that related compounds known as polysulfides are incredibly rich in broccoli sprouts – about 7 times more so than in mature broccoli! Researchers hope to study these compounds more in-depth to determine their specific health benefits. (More)
U.S. Groundwater Is Getting Saltier, Presents Health Hazards
Scientists who have been monitoring the quality of groundwater in wells across the U.S. for 30+ years have recently reported significant increases of Na and Cl ions, meaning the water is getting saltier. They attribute this to factors like increased use of road salt in cold weather urban areas and agricultural irrigation in arid regions. Higher levels of salinity can disrupt aquatic life, increase corrosion in pipes, and even mobilize radium – a harmful radioactive element. (More)
7,500 Daily Steps Can Cut Risk of Surgery Complications By 51%
Postoperative complications are estimated to occur in about 30% of surgery patients and can drastically slow recovery. However, some new research has found that people who regularly take about 7,500 steps per day prior to surgery may be able to cut their risk of a complication by up to 51%. Unfortunately, there’s no information on how soon exercise should start before surgery to be helpful, but it could be a natural way to “improve surgical outcomes.” (More)
What Is Computer Elbow? + 10 Tips to Prevent It
Move over tennis elbow – computer (or mouse) elbow is now taking center stage. It refers to muscle and/or tendon pain in the outer portion of the elbow, forearms, and wrists due to the repetitive motion of driving a mouse or typing. The best way to prevent it is to have an ergonomic work setup, use a wrist pad if needed, and keep your shoulders relaxed while you work. You can also stretch your fingers out every 30 minutes or so and squeeze a tennis ball in your spare time to strengthen the affected muscles. (More)

Hair typically grows fastest between the ages of 15-30 and slows down significantly between the ages of 50-60. Hair is colored by the pigment melanin – the same pigment that gives skin its color – and gray or white hair appears with age when melanin production is reduced or stopped.
